Weston Community Classic Golf Tournament

Weston Golf and Country Club will be hosting our second annual Weston Community Classic golf tournament to raise funds for local social service organizations.  As part of the Weston community, WGCC is committed to helping to improve the lives of our neighbours, many of whom are low income and living in challenging circumstances. With the ever increasing cost of living, and the other stresses of living in the city, community organizations are stretched to meet the needs.

Our Goal

We are aiming to exceed last year’s event when we raised $57,000. We know how important these funds are to local organizations so every extra dollar counts!

 

The Beneficiaries

The following organizations will be the beneficiaries of this year’s tournament:

Anduhayun Inc. provides programs and services to Indigenous women and their children leaving abusive situations.  Services include emergency shelter and second stage housing designed to maintain clients' cultural identity, self esteem, economic, physical and spiritual wellbeing. 

Weston Area Emergency Services (WAES)
WAES is Weston’s food bank providing food assistance to the local community. in the last half of 2022 they saw their numbers increase exponentially with new clients, many of whom have jobs, but who just cannot make the money stretch to pay for food, housing and everyday life. WAES saw an average of 2,140 visits per month in the first eight months of the year but that number increased to 2,480 in the last quarter.  Many newcomers fleeing the war in Ukraine are now food bank clients.  And the projections are that the client volume will continue to grow.

Weston Minor Hockey League (WMHL) – Legacy Fund
The WMHL has a long and storied history in Weston and is currently serving over 130 children at the house league and select levels at historic Weston Lions Arena.  As part of their mandate the League also endeavours to support the children of families who cannot afford the cost of player registrations and equipment. In this way, no child is turned away because of economic barriers.  Through its Legacy Fund WMHL works to ensure that the young players it supports in the early years will continue to receive registration and equipment assistance for as long as they wish to play hockey in Weston.
